I found yoga after I finished playing Division 1 volleyball at the University of Oklahoma. Up until this point I had spent the majority of my life training hard and lifting heavy. I was studying for my LSAT and thought I’d follow in my fathers footsteps and study a
profession that would “open so many doors.” But as I started studying for the exam and meeting with law schools, I became
increasingly more stressed and anxious about my future.
Making these huge plans and committing the next 3 years of my life felt terrifying and I didn't understand what this physical and
mental reaction meant. At first I tried to tone it down with drinking. Wine helped. But it felt so destructive to look forward to
something that would take the edge off when I knew it wasn't good for me. I wanted something more sustainable and something
that would help me to feel and harness that calmness and power whenever I needed it.
I was first attracted to yoga because of the physical transformation. The more I started opening up my body the more I realized
how tight and rigid my mind had become. I was so locked into my physical form that I was really struggling to change my mental
state. Day by day, I began to see how I could use my body as a road map to understand what was going on in my mental state.
I realized I had tapped into something more powerful and more meaningful than studying law or chasing a lifestyle. I took the LSAT and instead of applying to law school, I enrolled in a 200 hr yoga teacher training program and never looked back.
This path and lifestyle has tuned me into the power my body and mind can channel when they are in sync. The mental clarity that
started coming revealed a path so far from the one I thought I was “supposed to walk down,” but one I am so grateful to be
exploring.
Teaching yoga and helping others to tap into their mental, physical and emotional power through the practice brings me so much
joy. I am very passionate about working with athletes (especially those who identify as the “non-flexible” yogis) as that is exactly
where I started as well. Yoga is accessible for everyone and helping athletes who train hard and compete at any level is what lights me on fire.
I have taught D1 volleyball, football, golf, softball, and baseball players. I have designed programs for players entering the NFL
combine and for NFL players looking to enhance and lengthen their careers. I collaborate with speed and strength coaches to maximize our time and ensure the work is translating into results. I understand how to teach and explore the softer
side of strength and have seen the growth that comes from bringing active recovery into training regimens.
I am very excited about the possibility to train with you as I believe my athletic history, teaching certifications and
personable skills make me the teacher and trainer to build yoga into a sustainable and FUN practice in your life.
Whether you are training at elite levels or trying to change your mental state and learn to show up for yourself,
our bodies are pathways to tune into our power and I feel passionate about guiding and assisting you on this journey.
Nothing but love,
Emma Kittle
